Engineering

What we're looking for:
copious is looking to hire an engineer to round out the ground-floor tech team. Everyone on the team is responsible for building out a robust architecture and layering on quality code. Everyone contributes throughout the entire stack. We primarily use Ruby on Rails, JavaScript and Scala, but we have a toolkit full of Python, C, R, Java, Objective-C and Clojure that we're not afraid to use.

Bring a new tool. Add it to our kit. Your code and your critical thinking mean orders of magnitude more than your pedigree.

What you're looking for:
You want to be surrounded by people who respect, encourage and amplify both your passion and your talent for building. You want to see your creations in production sooner than you thought responsible practices could allow. You want to be a part of creating something that is still in its inception, so that you can point to the parts of it that couldn't have been done without you. You want to teach and learn. And have fun.

Most of all, you want to move around. If you're passionate about everything from jQuery widgets to statistical analysis, then this role might be the one for you.

How to apply:
Send a resume (or LinkedIn url), cover letter and the answers to the following 3 questions to jobs@copious.com

  1. What's your favorite programming language and why?
  2.  What is the most disastrous bug you've ever shipped (speak generally if there are proprietary details)?
  3.  How would you architect twitter to avoid the fail whale?

Feel free to include pointers to anything else that you think will represent who you are. Good examples would be github, bitbucket, stack overflow, etc.

Product Design

Copious is looking for a Product Designer to make our commerce experience beautiful inside and out.  We know great social experiences aren't just about how they look (although, that's important), so you'll be responsible for more than just pixels and wireframes.  You'll work with our product and design team to decide how the product works, feels, and ultimately connects with users.

The job is about:

  • Delivering the next great commerce experience to change the way people buy and sell.
  • Being the voice of the user and advocating the simplest solution to the knottiest of problems.
  • Driving ideas from concept to wireframes to code.
  • Being nimble, learning what works and what doesn't, and iterating on the fly.

You will need:

  • Passion to build something remarkable.
  • A strong understanding of how great on-line experiences work, and what makes them special.
  • Great communication skills to explain the "why" of your choices.
  • The ability to build what you design.
  • A decent sense of humor when things go sideways.

You will have experience:

  • Building great on-line applications.
  • Drawing, wireframing, sketching - whatever you need to do to rapidly prototype your ideas visually.
  • Executing high-fidelity comps and mockups.  Likely in Photoshop, Fireworks and Illustrator.
  • Coding HTML, CSS (Sass or other pre-processors) and Javascipt to make your designs reality.

How to apply:
Send us a note with your resume (or LinkedIn url) and a link to your on-line portfolio to jobs@copious.com.
